VILLA ON LAGO MAGGIORE
Stresa, Lago Maggiore, Italy.
Restoration and renovation of a Liberty Style Villa on Lago Maggiore into a private residence and boutique hospitality space.
Anticipated completion 2026.
Overlooking Lago Maggiore at the base of the Italian lie a number of old summer lake houses, build in the late 1800s and early 1900s, in a unique, local Art Nouveau style known as Liberty Style. Set against a backdrop of constantly shifting light, colour, and foliage, from the lush greens of spring to the snow capped mountains of winter, these properties exude charm, weaving natural motifs into the architecture and displaying early use of steel in their structure.
Transforming a 1895 Italian Liberty Style villa into a residence befitting its heritage and this location requires a sensitivity to both the original building and the local architectural history.
We are learning from the style and proportion of this existing villa architecture, while bringing an elevated touch to the flow of spaces and finishes to create a quietly luxurious space, befitting a modern lake retreat.
A new pool, pool pavilion and garaging tucked underneath will nestle into the gardens, with a more restrained, modern approach to the architecture.
All photos show the property in its pre-renovation state.
